Center For Orthopaedic and Sports Performance Research, Inc.
COSPR’s Education mission is to advance the education of orthopedic surgeons and communities around the world through lectures, publications, surgical demonstrations, and fellowship training in the fields of orthopedic surgery and sports performance. The “Development of Rural-Based Orthopedic Academia” Project began in 1996 to expand and promote important educational interchanges that ultimately result in the better delivery of health care into communities by improving visibility, prestige, and an increased interest in the medical community by the public, patient, and practitioner.
COSPR’s Research mission is to address the funding inadequacies for medical research that have been a noted concern for at least two decades in rural healthcare centers. Private, governmental, and educational facilities have sought to correct these shortcomings; however, the successes accomplished to date have been limited to large institutions or centers in large communities (i.e. greater than 500,000). These inadequacies have become acute in rural-based communities due to the rapidly advancing medical technologies and the augmented financial resources now typically available in larger communities–a result primarily of the growing biotechnology and intellectual property industries.
COSPR’s Technology mission arose during its investigation of possible options available to sponsor education and research opportunities that have not been previously available in rural-based communities. The development of instruments and products that aid in patient care has become a major funding avenue for the Education and Research projects suppported by COSPR. Completed product launches have generated revenue that is used within the organization to fund Education and Research programs globally. Currently, COSPR retains a high profile within the orthopedic biotechnology industry for product development.
